2nd october: A holiday
From the start of the last week people are thinking about the day 2nd October. No wait not because it’s a birthday of our Father of nation but it’s a Monday and this means that extended weekend.
We have found a nice way of remembering BAPU. Every major city in this country has a street named after him and we can find him on the currency notes. But do we think about why he got there while walking on those streets or using these currencies. They have become meaningless as you don’t give the due importance to the things that are always visible to us.
The streets are deserted and I can hardly see any activities going on.I wonder that what our BAPU would be thinking from the heaven, that his birthday has brought the country to standstill and there is hardly anyone who has devoted this time to study the principle and practice the ideology preached by him. They will be doing all kinds of activities except what Gandhi thought. He used to spun the cotton so that everyone has work and they contribute something to the country in their free time. I am not asking people to do the same and I am not doing it, but there are so many ways we can work for the betterment of the country. He must be thinking that a one day national holiday is causing so much loss to the country in the terms of revenue. I am also one among the others who were looking for a leave and spend the time peacefully and have fun, but I think that this is due to the practice followed from the beginning. From schooldays we get holiday on this day. Isn’t it better to teach this day about the principles of Gandhi this day in the schools?
But our dear politician and the rule makers are busy somewhere in the vande-matram and permitting the government employees in the RSS. Today there will be a queue on the RAJGHAT and all the statues of Gandhi would have been cleaned and decorated and it will be the same time again next year when some one will raise eyes to see the statues. It’s important to do something rather than celebrate the b’day like this. The Gandhigiri is famous again and in news due to the movie LAGE RAHO MUNNABHAI. At least this gave the viewers some ideology of the great Gandhi may be in the humorous way but at least it had the message. So lets learn something on this day rather than celebrating a holiday on this day. i really like the background sound track of the movie..
BANDE MAIN THA DUM.. VANDE MATRAMM..
and how true it is.
Aaj Gandhidiri Gandhiwaad par bhari pad rahi hai. Pata nahi bapu khush honge ya ro rahe honge...
Ab Tumhare Hawale Yeh Vatan Sathiyon..
It took 10 years for Gandhijee to raise his voice after the incidence in South Africa. The reason -- he was on a sponsored trip of Africa and even a single word against the RULING COUNTRY would hav ruined his career and aspirations of being the best lawyer. True, had I been in his place, I would have done the same. But, when you are taking someone to His level, then even these things should be taught to children. Why have these things not been mentioned in text books or not talked about even once in a decade atleast..
Why do we have a Dry Day only on 2nd October. Why not on 23rd January or 23rd March. Did Netaji or Bhagat Singh ever favour Drinking? We probably have Dry Day on 2nd october because the night Gandhi(jee) was thrown on station @ South Africa, he dint have a blanket to cover himself and he spent the night by drinking to fight the cold there. For once even Bhagat Singh dint have the comfort of a blanket when he was hiding away from Britishers but instead of taking on the Wine, he preferred to shiver in the night.
A very recent article about why Gandhi has not ever been awarded the Noble Prize states that Gandhi played with the rules of (so-called) Non Violence and hence community decided against him.
My friend, even I agree with you that there should be no holiday on 2nd October. The only difference is the reason. You feel that, instead of holiday his rules should be preached and I feel that why holiday at all for a person like GANDHI?? One who can not reached what he preached!!!
